About the producer
The Matteo Correggia winery was established in 1985, inspired by one man’s dream to make worldclass wines in the rather unknown and underappreciated area of Roero. Matteo was an incredibly passionate man with remarkable drive and vision and was well respected among Piedmont’s leading producers. In 2001, Matteo Correggia tragically passed away just as he entered the region’s winemaking elite. With the help of Matteo’s winemaker mentors, close friends and loving family, his wife Ornella stepped up to oversee the estate, carrying on her husband’s dream to introduce the world to the beauty and great potential of winemaking in Roero.

The grapes for the 20-hectare estate are cultivating using natural processes and traditional winemaking methods. Here the key varietals are Nebbiolo, Barbera, Arneis and Brachetto. The elegantly powerful cult wine Roero “Rocche d’Ampsej” comes from a tiny plot of 50 to 60-yr-old Nebbiolo vines, and is the culmination of Matteo’s life’s work. Barbera “Marun” is varietally pure, vibrant, and concentrated, with intense personality. Nebbiolo “La Val dei Preti” is also classic Roero: from 50 years old nebbiolo vines planted in three hectares of sandy-limestone soil, the wine ages 12 months in new French oak. “Anthos” is the estate’s dry, still Brachetto, a beautifully aromatic wine nose of rose petals and tropical fruits, while the Arneis, considered one of the finest expressions of the grape, has an ever increasing following around the world. Correggia’s Nebbiolo “Roero,” aged for 12 months in used barriques, and an additional 8 months in stainless steel, provides access to their stunning line-up that all offers outstanding value and quality. In the words of Antonio Galloni, “the late Matteo Correggia was and remains the spiritual leader of the Roero region.”
