Luca Attanasio’s family has been producing Primitivo di Manduria for generations.
Growing up, farming was more of a hobby for Luca as he never seriously considered making it his career. He left home in the late 1990s to study economics, not expecting to be return anytime soon. In college, he studied internet marketing and realized the great potential to grow his family’s business. Shortly after this realization, Luca made the tough decision to drop out of school and return home to build an online marketing strategy for his family’s wine company, determined to use the internet as a platform to introduce the world to Primitivo di Manduria. After achieving success in growing the business, Luca left to start his own project.
Beginning with three hectares of 50-60 year old vines in Manduria, Luca held on to traditional methods of grape growing and winemaking while updating all technology in the winery, in order to leave little room for error. Dedicated to elevating the reputation and perception of the area and of the Primitovo grape, Luca spends most of his time and resources focusing on quality rather than marketing, feeling that the region has moved away from this simple concept and has spent more time and money on sales and marketing efforts. His first release presented the 2016 Attanasio ‘Dodecapolis’ Primitivo and his Primitivo Rosato, both profound expressions of the grape and his terroir.
